Homemade Caramel Dip

They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but mayyyyybe the phrase doesn’t hold true if the apple is dripping with sweet and sticky caramel sauce. But that’s okay. A little butter and sugar are okay every once in a while, even if they turn a healthy snack into an indulgent treat. And what a treat this is…
Caramel dip is just so good. And it’s easy too. (This is just three ingredients, you guys. And a few minutes stirring at the stove. That’s it!) It’s velvety and gooey at the same time, and sweet with just a hint of salt. We love to make ours with brown sugar because it gives a deeper caramel flavor and creates a bit of a thicker sauce. And while we usually rely on unsalted butter for recipes, here we’ve used salted because it provides a really nice contrast to the sweetness of the dip.
While some tart apple slices are the classic pair for caramel dip, there are so many things you can dip into it! Imagine a party tray with pretzels, marshmallows, little cubes of cheesecake and brownie, sliced pears, and vanilla wafers with this in the center. Just heavenly.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, cubed
2/3 cup heavy cream
PREPARATION
Add the three ingredients to a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir until melted and combined.
Once mixture comes to a boil, allow to simmer for 5-7 minutes until it reaches a caramel consistency. (Stir only occasionally during this stage.)
Once mixture comes together and is well blended, remove from heat and allow to cool. Mixture will thicken as it cools. Will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
