Ingredients:
Canola oil for frying
12 regular-sized and thick hot dogs
12 hot dog or lollipop sticks, candy sticks, wooden skewers, etc.
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup fine cornmeal
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 large egg
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup milk
1/2 cup milk (additional, if needed)
Instructions:
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat enough canola oil to fully submerge the corn dogs. Preheat the oil to 375°F (190°C).
Insert the hot dog or lollipop sticks into each hot dog, leaving enough space for a comfortable grip.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Mix well to combine.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, honey, and 1 cup of milk.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter should be thick but still pourable. If needed, add additional milk, a tablespoon at a time, until you achieve the right consistency.
Dip each hot dog into the batter, coating it evenly. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
Carefully place the battered hot dogs into the preheated oil, one or two at a time, depending on the size of your pot or fryer. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning them occasionally for even cooking.
Using tongs, remove the corn dogs from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Repeat the battering and frying process for the remaining hot dogs.
